CAD/GIS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN This position performs technical work related to engineering and planning functions for one of the nation’s largest ports. Work involves design and drafting of in-house civil and other multi-disciplined engineering projects, development of planning and conceptual infrastructure layouts, support and development of legal descriptions and plats for commercial real estate transactions, maintenance of as-built and other graphic documentation using AutoCAD and Arc Info / Arc Map or other drawing or GIS computer software, and field support to include inspection and observation of construction activities and collection of GPS based survey data. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Prepares in-house civil and multi-discipline engineering plans based on sketches and verbal instructions provided by engineers and project managers
- Builds and maintains the Port’s GIS data base by importing drawings, field data, and other information
- Supports PCCA staff with GIS mapping, analysis, and documentation
- Assists in building a GIS-based Asset Management Program
- Inspects field conditions and construction work on selected maintenance and capital construction projects and reports to the assigned PCCA project manager
- Collects field data using Trimble GPS / GIS equipment and related computer software
- Uses collected field data to support design and drawing development
- Assists in organizing and maintaining the Engineering Department Flat File Drawing System and in organizing and maintaining the electrical drawing data base
- Works with, supports, and takes direction from senior lead as assigned
- Involved in all aspects of design and construction administration
- Formulates and prioritizes projects and project requirements following the guidelines outlined in PCCA strategic plans, approved budgets, the PCCA’s Project Manual and to respond to port growth and operational needs
- Supports Commercial and Real Estate Departments, as assigned, for the development of proposed and final lease or easement premises, writes metes and bounds descriptions, and prepares map exhibits
- Prepares and updates standard drawings and design details
- Prepares exhibits, maps, charts, and other presentation materials to support presentations to the Port Commission and the general public
- Travels by vehicle to project sites and function outside in various weather conditions while inspecting port facilities and tenant improvements and construction progress
- Maintains high level of integrity and professionalism and promotes good employee relations
- Adheres to PCCA Policy, promotes PCCA environmental precepts, a safe work environment and the SEAPORT values
- Functions in pre-and post-disaster preparedness as a Tier 2 employee
CANDIDATE PROFILE The preferred candidate for this position should be a detail-oriented professional with a demonstrated track record in planning and design. Requirements for the position include: EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS - Associates Degree in Technical Drafting and Design Technology or equivalent
- Good driving record with valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE - Knowledge of port, marine and rail infrastructure design and planning
- Knowledge of local, state and federal codes and requirements
- Effective business communication utilizing correct English (spelling and grammar)
- Knowledge of budgets and cost containment controls preferred
- Knowledge of solid and surface modeling
- Experience in preparation of design and construction drawings
- Experience in preparation of lease boundaries exhibits and writing metes-and-bounds descriptions preferred
TECHNICAL & MENTAL SKILLS - Skilled in AutoCAD and Civil 3D and working knowledge of GIS applications to support civil and multi-discipline design development
- Skills in data base development helpful
- Skills using Trimble or similar GPS survey equipment and downloading geo-referenced data points into CAD helpful
- Ability to write and create presentations/ technical reports and give formal presentations
- Strong analytical and detail orientation skills, with a solid customer service orientation
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other related applications
- Strong problem-solver with a collaborative style of effective project management

- Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and over devices such as phones and mobile phones
- Ability to drive a lightweight highway vehicle to meetings and work related events
